TABLE TENNIS: Justiniano captures Pinoy fiesta Open

Regor Justiniano won the biggest title of his table tennis career when he beat ormer champion and #2 seed Gary Dayaon, 3-1 on Saturday, June 24, 2017 in the finals of the Pinoy Fiesta Table Tennis Championship at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

Playing smart table tennis, he was relaxed, confident and determined from the start. The #4 seed was deadly with his fast forehand and consistent with his guided blocking technique especially from the backhand that caused many adversary nightmares. In the semi-final, he beat 3rd place winner Ruel Vergara #1 seed also a former champion with the same score.

Tsamba or pure luck said Regor who is still humble after the game. But the crowd including his family who were present disagreed and gave him a standing ovation. In the "A" Division, Hubert Ignacio was in fine form. He used his experience to beat the powerful Vincent Adulfo in the finals.

3rd place went to Archy Cruzado from Ottawa who had a bit of cramp during the medal round and not that light-footed as usual.

In the "B" Division -- Jasmin Portillo, RJ Rosal and Daisy Ferrer finished the same record but because the point system was in effect, Jasmin was declared the winner, RJ second place and Daisy 3rd place.

Meanwhile in the 55+ eevnt, Ernie La Rosa continued the good form he had displayed at the two previous tournament and won the championship trophy by Clem Cabillan in straight games. 3rd place went to Hector Aquino.

In the Hard Bat competition, Angel Espino showed that he is very comfortable playing the event by heating Regor Justiniano in the finals. 3rd place went to Nelson Gile.
